Maruja Mallo (1902–1995) was a Spanish surrealist painter and a vital part of the "Generation of 27," a group of innovative artists and intellectuals in 20th-century Spain. Celebrated as one of the most influential Spanish women artists of her time, her remarkable work fused a daring imagination with themes of social and political significance. The Museo Reina Sofía is currently hosting "Mask and Compass," the largest exhibition to date focused on Maruja Mallo, running until March 16, 2026.
